Lliswerry pond Back in the 1970s
Black+white picture, colourised
When I was
a young man (it don't seem so long ago) i understood that the Lliswerry pond as its become known, was called Lime quarry pond,
i used to go fishing there, can't say i ever caught anything other than a cold.. As a person who in my childhood days
kept pigeons i would go to the lime quarry to get bags of lime, this was to whitewash the pigeon loft,it was aso used
to whitewash walls etc.. This was a fully operational lime quarry that closed in the 1940s, i do beleive that there
is a road close by called Lime Crescent.....After the quarry closed water took hold, now its better known as Lliswerry pond......
Oh happy days...........................
